Motorcycle cable maintenance

Motorcycle operation relies entirely on steel cables, with the throttle, choke, clutch, and front brake all dependent on these cables. Therefore, cable maintenance is crucial.

(1) Regularly lubricate the cables

Exposure to sun and rain can easily cause motorcycle cables to rust and age. Dust and water can make the cables stiff or even cause breakage. Regular lubrication is therefore an important part of motorcycle maintenance. The method is to remove the end of the cable that needs lubrication from the motorcycle after parking at night, wrap a small funnel with transparent tape around the outer sheath of the cable end, and then drip a few drops of engine oil into the funnel. Ensure the funnel is vertical. The next morning, you will find engine oil seeping from the lower end of the cable, indicating that the oil has penetrated the cable. This maintenance is only necessary once a month, eliminating the worry of roadside breakdowns.

(2) Replace faulty cables promptly

Some users continue to use a cable even if a strand is broken. This is dangerous. A broken clutch cable prevents starting, a broken throttle cable prevents acceleration, and a broken throttle cable strand stuck in the middle can cause runaway acceleration, which is extremely dangerous. Therefore, regularly inspect all cables and replace any showing signs of wear to prevent major problems.
