Start the vehicle. When starting the vehicle, be sure to complete a self-check and aim for a one-touch start. If the first ignition attempt fails, pause briefly before trying again. If it fails three times in a row, stop trying and find the cause.
Warm up the vehicle. Whether it's fuel injection or a carburetor, proper warm-up is necessary. During warm-up, do not touch the throttle; let it idle for two or three minutes. This can be shortened slightly in summer. Warming up allows the engine components to quickly reach their optimal lubrication state, preparing the vehicle for normal starting and riding.
Starting the vehicle. Starting a vehicle isn't difficult. While the clutch and throttle coordination may be challenging for beginners, it's easy with gentle operation and understanding the clutch's characteristics. Find the clutch engagement point, hold it steady, gently apply throttle, and slowly release the clutch to start.
Shifting while driving. Shifting gears involves releasing the throttle, pulling the clutch, shifting gears, releasing the clutch, and applying the throttle. This process should be smooth and quick. Mastering this will prevent issues like jerky shifting.
Slowing down the vehicle. The technique for slowing a motorcycle varies depending on road conditions, but the main principle is to use engine braking and brakes (70% front, 30% rear), braking before releasing the clutch, and using controlled braking. Mastering this will make slowing down or emergency braking easier.
Stopping the vehicle. Stopping is an extended slowing-down process. For beginners, coasting in gear and then stopping in gear is easier. First, slow down, then hold the clutch while braking, choose a parking spot, park, and put the vehicle in neutral.
Vehicle maintenance. Vehicle maintenance includes routine maintenance and periodic inspections. Routine maintenance includes changing lubricating oil and gear oil, cleaning the air filter, adjusting the chain, and checking tire pressure. Periodic inspections cover a wider range, such as checking brake fluid quality, brake pad wear, belt aging, spark plug replacement needs, and valve clearance adjustments. While many items are involved, you can refer to the maintenance manual and adjust according to the actual situation.
