Motorcycle maintenance at certain mileage intervals is called regular maintenance, which can be divided into first-level maintenance, second-level maintenance, and third-level maintenance.
Motorcycle Regular Maintenance Schedule:
(1) First-level maintenance
After the motorcycle has traveled a certain mileage (generally 1000~2000km), lubricants should be added to the parts that need lubrication according to the regulations, and the exposed bolts and nuts of the vehicle should be tightened. This maintenance work, which focuses on lubrication and tightening, is called first-level maintenance. In addition to the items of routine maintenance, the content of first-level maintenance should also include the following items:
① For motorcycles with chain drive, the chain should be removed and cleaned; for motorcycles with belt drive, the belt pulley should be removed and cleaned.
② Clean the carburetor, air filter, and fuel switch.
③ Remove carbon deposits from the spark plug, and check and adjust the electrode gap.
④ Check whether the contacts of all vehicle cable connectors are good.
⑤ Check and adjust the free travel of the clutch lever, throttle lever, and brake lever or pedal, and lubricate the operating cables.
⑥ Lubricate the speedometer and tachometer flexible shafts with grease.
⑦ Change the engine oil.
(2) Second-level maintenance
Maintenance work focusing on inspection and adjustment is called second-level maintenance. Second-level maintenance should be performed after the motorcycle has generally traveled 3000~6000km. In addition to the items of first-level maintenance, the content of second-level maintenance should also include the following items:
① Remove carbon deposits from the cylinder, cylinder head, piston, piston rings, and muffler.
② Check the wear of the clutch friction plates and brake pads on the brake shoes, and adjust or replace them according to the wear condition.
③ Check and adjust the contact gap of the breaker.
④ Check whether the axial and radial runout of the front and rear wheel rims meet the requirements. If the runout is too large, it should be adjusted or replaced.
⑤ Check and adjust the valve clearance.
⑥ Adjust the position of the rear shock absorber appropriately.
⑦ Check and clean the carbon dust between the engine, starter, rectifier, and commutator.
(3) Third-level maintenance
Maintenance work focusing on disassembling the various components of the motorcycle for inspection and troubleshooting is called third-level maintenance. Third-level maintenance is generally performed after traveling 6000~10000km and should be checked at a motorcycle repair shop.
① Disassemble the engine, remove carbon deposits from the cylinder head, piston top, piston rings, exhaust ports, etc., check the clearance between the piston and cylinder wall, connecting rod small end bearing and piston pin, large end bearing and crankshaft pin, check the runout of the left and right halves of the crankshaft, etc.
② Disassemble the clutch, check the free length of the clutch spring and the thickness of the friction plates, and replace the spring or friction plates if necessary.
③ Check the gears in the gearbox for cracks, burns, spalling, and severe step wear.
④ Disassemble the steering column assembly, clean the steering column bearings, add sufficient grease, and adjust the clearance after reassembly.
⑤ Disassemble the front shock absorber, check whether the free length of the front shock absorber spring meets the requirements, and replace the front shock absorber oil.
⑥ Check the wear of the generator and starter brushes and commutator, and replace them if necessary.
