Motorcycle brake maintenance and adjustment

I. Adjustment of the Drum-Type Front Brake

A. Support the motorcycle with the main stand and measure the free travel of the front brake lever from the free position to the point where braking begins. It should be 10-20 mm.

B. If it is not within the specified range, adjust it. Turn the front brake adjusting nut clockwise to decrease the free travel; turn it counterclockwise to increase the free travel.

C. Squeeze the front brake lever several times and then release it. Check if the front brake is working properly (rotate the front wheel to see if it rotates smoothly).

D. Adjustments can also be made using the front brake fine-tuning nut.

Note: If the pointer on the front brake aligns with the scale on the brake end cover, the brake shoes should be replaced. Replace the brake shoes every 4000 km; clean and lubricate the clutch operating cable every 2000 km.

II. Adjustment of the Rear Brake:

A. Support the motorcycle with the main stand.

B. Measure the travel of the rear brake pedal from its original position to the point where the brake begins to work. It should be 20-30 mm.

C. If adjustment is needed, use the same method as for the front brake.
