The maintenance of motorcycles according to a certain mileage is called regular maintenance, which can be divided into primary maintenance, secondary maintenance and tertiary maintenance.

Primary maintenance

When the motorcycle travels for a certain mileage (generally 1000-2000km), the parts that need to be lubricated should be filled with lubricant according to the regulations, and the exposed bolts and nuts of the motorcycle should be tightened. This kind of maintenance work centered on lubrication and tightening is called primary maintenance. In addition to the routine maintenance items, the content of first-level maintenance should also add the following items:

- For motorcycles driven by chains, the chain should be removed for cleaning; for motorcycles driven by belts, the pulleys should be removed for cleaning.

- Clean the carburetor, air filter and fuel switch.

- Remove the carbon deposits on the spark plug, and check and adjust the electrode gap.

- Check whether the contact of the cable connectors of the whole vehicle is good.

- Check and adjust the free travel of clutch handle, accelerator handle, brake handle or pedal, and add lubricating oil to the control wire.

- Lubricate the flexible shaft of the speedometer and tachometer with grease.

- Change the oil.

Secondary maintenance

Maintenance operations centered on inspection and adjustment are called secondary maintenance. Motorcycles should generally be maintained after 3000 ~ 6000km. In addition to the items of the first-level maintenance operation, the content of the second-level maintenance should also add the following items:

- Remove the carbon deposits on the cylinder, cylinder head, piston, piston ring and muffler.

- Check the wear of the clutch friction plates and the brake pads on the brake shoes, and adjust or replace them according to the wear and tear.

- Check and adjust the contact gap of the circuit breaker.

- Check whether the axial runout and radial runout of the front and rear rims meet the requirements. If the runout is too large, it should be adjusted or replaced.

- Check and adjust the valve clearance.

- Properly adjust the position of the rear shock absorber.

- Check and clean the carbon dust between the engine, starter commutator and commutator segments.

Three-level maintenance

The maintenance work centered on disassembling the various assemblies of the motorcycle to inspect and remove hidden dangers is called tertiary maintenance. The third-level maintenance is generally carried out after driving 6000 ~ 10000km, and should be checked at the motorcycle repair station.

- Disassemble the engine, remove the carbon deposits on the cylinder head, piston top, piston ring, exhaust port, etc., check the clearance between the piston and the cylinder wall, the small end bearing of the connecting rod and the piston pin, the big end bearing and the crankshaft pin, and Check the amount of runout on the left and right halves of the crankshaft, etc.

- Disassemble the clutch, check the free length of the clutch spring and the thickness of the friction plate, and replace the spring or friction plate if necessary.

- Check the gears of the transmission for cracks, ablation, spalling and serious step wear.

- Disassemble the steering column assembly, clean the steering column bearing, add enough grease, and adjust the clearance after reassembly.

- Disassemble the front shock absorber, check whether the free length of the front shock absorber spring meets the requirements, and replace the front shock absorber oil.

- Check the wear of the brushes and commutators of the generator and starter, and replace them if necessary.
